bypass hose replacement

How do I replace the hose with only a half an inch gap between the two metal pipes coming from the block and water pump?

To tell you the truth, the water pump is supposed to be removed but I have done them by applying a little silicone grease to the fitting and taking the hose and fold it in half and push down on it between the fittings.
