The last oil change mechanic said it was bone dry, no leaks. Might be engine burning oil.
I drove 1,600 miles since then. Dipstick has oil a quarter of the way up from minimum when I check an hour after driving. Dipstick shows 3/4 up from min in the morning. Both checks are in flat driveway same spot. Which reading is right and should I be concerned. Thank you

Hi,

The best way to check the oil level is on a level surface after the engine has been off for approximately ten minutes. At that point, oil that is still throughout the engine has a chance to drain back into the oil pan. When you check it right after driving or running the engine, it will show lower.

Now, Ford Motor company indicates it is normal for an engine to use a quart within 1,500 miles is normal. I attached the oil consumption testing below for your review. Take a look through it and try what it suggests. If you have questions, please let me know.

Take care and let me know what you find.

Joe

Jacob,

Thank you so much for your response. Looks like I should be okay. I have used 1/2 a quart over 1,500 miles. The information you sent is very useful. I appreciate it!

Hi,

You are very welcome. If that is the amount you are using and the engine has over 200,000 miles, that is actually really good.

If anything changes or if I can help in any way, let me know.

Take care,

Joe
