1962 Buick Special Carburetor

Car will start upon pumping gas pedal like crazy.
Drop it in gear and car stalls. Starts up quickly and will run smoothly until slowing down, then engine sputters and dies. Will start by pumping pedal. Engine runs better after high speed driving but as soon as engine is shut off, problem starts again.
Engine is V-8, 195/215, w/ 2 barrel carb. Idles great when not in gear.
Thanks for any suggestions you may offer.

Check the choke opening adjustment and the fast idle cam adjustment and readjust the A/F mixture and idle speed.
