I have a 98 buick skylark, 6 cyl automatic. It seams to idle at a low rpm almost to the point of stalling out (hasn't stalled yet). During normal driving conditions it appears to be losing power, lurching forward but doesn't stall. Also during driving when accellerating out of a stop (like at a light) it seams as though it is hesitatiing, no power but then it opens up and runs fine. The "check engine" light is on but apparently it only registering a faulty O2 sensor. Not sure what needs to be done but looking for any suggestions.

If the check engine light is on it needs to be dealt with first before the car will run properly. When the computer lights the light it will run off pre-programmed parameters in the computer instead of live info like it should, this will harm the performance greatly. Exactly what code is in the computer?

Thanks for the response and sorry for the delay in responding. Other things came up and car went on the back burner. The indicator light is on for the cam shaft positioning sensor. The issue we are having is the vehicle is really lurching when drive at speeds above 60mph. It almost feels like the engine is sticking. Only last a second but happens multiple times (4-5) in a half hour drive, but is getting worse and more frequent. It is also stalling at intersections, not sure if that is related or just an old car. Any info is appreciated.

You may need to replace the cam position sensor if thats what code you are getting. If the cam sensor is not working properly, the engine could surge/stall like you are describing.
