When I put it under a load like going up a steep hill it gurgle's in waves. I have never heard anything like it before

Get a look at both the coolant and the transmission fluid for condition appearance and levels. If anything unusual post results.

I was hedging of the coolant was down a bit and it was eminating from the radiator.
I'm not otherwise.
This is not an engine ping? Granted that is more like marbles in a tin can sound.

Its not a metal to metal sound from what I can tell.
I have replaced the filter the other day and no change.

The only thing that comes to mind on this is coolant circulating in the heater core. The volume of coolant will increase as the pump is pushing harder and circulating it faster.
