check engine light comes on after about 10 minutes of driving, temp gage does not go up, only thing I see is the fan is not turning. do I need to replace the fan or is it a fan motor that I need to replace?

The CEL being on means there's a problem within the engine management system pull the code/s from the computer this will tell where to start.

Could be a problem with coolant temperature sensor or the engine temperature gauge/switch sender that the fans are not coming relays too
