My trany is leaking from the passenger side CV Shaft. I have replaced the seal, and it continues to leak. The shaft is not being pulled out of the transmission. When I changed the seal, I notice that therer was a ring on the shaft, were the seal makes contact. I wanted to know if I could sand the contact area with some low grit sanding paper to resurface the shaft? What do you recomend? Thanks Cedric

HI:
I wouldn't recommend sanding the part. It could it to leak worse. You need to check the part with a micrometer to make sure it isn't too worn.

The output shaft on that side may have a warn support bearing on the inside of the unit. Try this first. Pop out the new seal, throw in garbage, get new seal. Take new seal spring from inside of seal, unscrew the spring. One end is opened, and the other end of the spring is tapered. CUT about 1/8" off of the open end of the spring, then rescrew the 2 ends back together. REMEMBER. Turn the tapered end counter clockwise first by pre-coiling the spring, so when you put the 2 ends together, the spring will self screw itself on. If you dont, it will uncoil in the car and you'll have a bigger leak. Now, put the spring back into the seal and install new seal in transmission. This tightening of the spring will apply a little more force onto the seal surface hopefully correcting the leak. Otherwise some aftermarket trans warehouses (wholesalers that dont sell to the public) might have a replacement seal with built in bearing race. (MIGHT) good luck.
