Where to start for diagnosing engine oil blowing back through hose to and into breather filter. PCV valve seems to be functioning, and engine seems to be running fine. Also, compression test seems to check out within specifications. The engine has an EGR valve and a four port "switching?" device. I have a vacuum tester and additional vacuum gauge, dwell meter, and multitester, but I don't have a functioning inductive timing light. Thank You.

You might see if there is agasket on the oil cap or just get a new one. there should be a little vacuum on the valve cover. Check the hose to the pcv and see if it is partially blocked as that used to happen. Otherwise change the breater filter every 12,000 miles as these had poor bffling inside the valve cover.
