For the third winter, as soon as it gets cold (west TX cold, not the artic) my speedometer stops functioning completely, not even a bump, just sits at the 6:00 position. Sometimes my gas guage also does not move. If the past year's are an indication around April it will again work. Any idea why this is happening?

The speedo is operated by the vehicle speed sensor. However, that sensor has nothing to do with the fuel gauge. Because the two are seperate, I would guess that there is a problem with the insturment panel unless the check engine light has come on.

Let me know if that is the case.

No service engine light, we did notice after a couple of warmer days the gas guage is now working and the speedometer moved one day but was moving across the bottom and backwards.

It sounds like there is a problem with the inst panel or the body control module.

Well it is the third week of April; nice warm weather and my speedometer has once again started to work perfectly. It will probably do so until the middle of November. Thanks for reading my post.

Yes, the second week of November, temperature dipped to 34 and speedoneter is crazy, drove 90 mph to work this morning-what a rush! Guess I will surrender and find a shop that works on speedometers.
Thanks.
