2002 Buick Rendezvous goes without hitting gas

I am driving down the road and my car goes without hitting the gas pedal. I put it in neutral and the rpm's shoot up to 4. What could be wrong with the car?

Clean out the throttle body/plate-look for a kinked accelerator cable, check the idle air control valve and the throttle position sensor.
