2001 Buick Regal Cruise Control

When using the cruise control it at time will suddenly accelerate. Tapping the brake or turning of the control will release the cruise control. This does not happen all the time.

Does the speedo always read proprely? Are the controls for the cruise in the steering wheel or on the multi-function switch?
