While tuning a corner on a snowy night, I slid thru the corner and impacted the curb at about 10-15 mph, impacting the curb with my right front wheel hard enough to break off a chunk of rim. The tire was still holding air so I made it home at a slow speed. There was a grinding noise coming from that wheel, but the car tracks straight, brakes ok, and otherwise seemed alright other than the low tire light came on. By the light of day the following day, I jacked up the front end, put both sides on jack stands, rotated the wheels rear to front, (to get the damaged wheel off a drive axle) and crawled under to look for the source of the noise. It's louder in the car than outside. Everything seemed to be ok, looks wise, no obvious damage, bent pieces or anything. I put the car in gear and let the wheels spin and didn't notice anything rubbing. It sounds like a low rumble/grinding, constant while moving, gets louder with speed. I'm a pretty fair shade tree mechanic but don't have the funds to blindly start replacing things. What would the most likely culprit be and how could I narrow it down at home? CV joints, tweaked the axle itself, control arm? Thanks for your help, love your site!
