1999 Buick Regal GAS CAP

I replaced my gas cap yesterday. Today the warning chime sounded and showed the gauge showed empty.
I filled tank up and it only took 10 gal. Is this normal or may there be another problem?

HI there,

This tank has a capacity of 17.5 Gal, so i feel that the sender unit is out of calibration, have this inspected, start here.
