Dear Sir(s),

I have been a relatively happy owner of a 1999 Buick Regal LS sedan for some time now, but there seems to be something strange that is developing, and no one seems to be able to figure it out. I recently had the entire front end fixed up with all new inner and outter tie rods, sub frame bushings, wheel alignment, the works. These repairs were not entirely necessary or posing any risk, they were supposedly the cause of these frustrating noises coming from what sounds like the passenger side firewall (strut maybe) or the frame of the car in that general area. Well needless to say, I have seen some mechanics get it wrong, but this just defies logic. After getting all of this work done to the front of the car and having the suspension inspected three times over, NO ONE SEEMS TO BE ABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THIS ANNOYING CREAKING AND POPPING NOISE. The last group of mechanics had my car up in the air with one guy putting it into drive and reverse (makes creak happen the most) while the other one snooped around underneath to locate the source. I am guessing to myself by this stage that this must be some engine/tanny mount issue, but the mechanic said he heard the noise coming from the drive axles and/or tansmission itself. So if this is true, then why on earth would the noise dissappear when the roads are wet or it is raining outside? This makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE WHATSOEVER! Any advice or information on this issue would be greatly appreciated. I refuse to let a problem like this destroy the enjoyment of my car.

My Regal was doing the same thing, it turned out to be the Sway bar and bushings

Well, thus far I have done my best to 'ignore' the problem and hope I keep hitting an occassional mud puttle in the road to keep it quiet. LOL. Ok, all kidding aside, I did some poking around of my own and found that the passenger side center strut bolt is free enough (with a socket wrench) to rotate in it's place, the driver side only turns as far as the rubber grommet/washer allows before it springs back to center/start. I am not going to try to loosen the driver side with any more pressure, I just wanted to collect info on the difference. I can only imagine breaking the driver side rubber loose and having both sides creaking and popping. That would drive me insane for sure. There is also a lot of corrosion around those strut mounts, so I am going to see if I can get it to quiet down using some sort of lubricant (like WD-40) which should simulate the "wet" conditions during rainy days. I will post when I have found something to report.
PS I am still asking around with vaious mechanics to see if there might be someone experienced enough to help.
