1999 Buick Regal Acceleration

My check engine light is on. When I push the gas pedal, the car won't move. It just revs but won't accelerate. Also it made a loud ticking sound while its idle after I started it on this one part thats about a foot long and it's close to the firewall. The part has some small hoses connected to it on top. Could this be a problem with my transmission or is it something possibly wrong with a cylinder misfire?

If the engine revs but doesn't move, it sounds more transmission related. Is the trans fluid full? Have you had the computer scanned to identify why the light is on?
