Hi:
If the check engine light is on, there is a code in the computer. Take it to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. It will help identify the engine problem and most will do it for free.
If the car has never had a tune up, it wouldn't hurt to do it. Plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, air filter if needed should be under 125 dollars. (Doing it yourself)
As far as the exhaust, there are both rubber hangers under the car and steel ones. Check to see if you can find any broken and replace them as needed.
