1997 Buick Regal anti theft and key resistor problems

had problems with resistor on ignition key. bought new key car ran well no problems. 6 mo's later car want start. my mechanic says , tried everything he knows can only start car for short time. said he by-passed security and no help. i still think resistor or wires to ignition faulty.

Sometimes key shaving (metal dust) can build up in the column and affect the key being read.Does he have a scan tool to look to see if the VAT (vehicle anti-theft) is working?
