1992 Buick Regal runs terrible after battery change

1992 Buick Regal 6 cyl

every time I disconnect or change the battery the car runs very bad for about 2 months afterward. It will idle up real high when cranking and will die when you come to a stop. after about 2 months it will straighten out and run perfect until disconnect or change the battery again. I would appreciate any input.
