2004 Buick Ranier V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

hello. My daughters dash fuel gauge operates very irratic, and the check engine light comes on. The dealer said it is a bad fuel card. Computer? At the cost of $400.00. Is this true, and if so can I repair it myself. Ps the car is do inspection this mo.

What was the EXACT trouble code retrieved for the CEL?

What do you mean by erratic fuel gauge operations? Can you please explain the symptoms in detail?
