Car shuts off while driving. Different rates of speed - usually after about an hour of operation. Three mechanics and $1,000 later, new mechanic says it is TCC solenoid. What do you think?

You may be right, but that doesn't really help at this point.

Don't go to another one. Go back to the one you trust most. Each time you go to a new one, he will start at the basics and likley cover what has already been covered. Your paying for time that has already been paid for. Stick with one shop that you trust the best or you'll regret it.
