I CHANGED THE BATTERY- KEY OFF-REMOVED NEG LEAD-REMOVED POS LEAD. PUT IN NEW BATTERY-CONNECTED POS LEAD-CONNECTED NEG LEAD.

PROBLEM; GAS GUAGE NEEDLE WAS BELOW THE LOW "PEG" WHEN KEY IS TURNED ON THE NEEDLE MOVES TO THE LOW SIDE OF THE" PEG".

1 HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN?

Get a good magnet. Hold it close to the plastic glass in front of the gauge. Turn the magnet counter clockwise until the needle gets back to normal position.
