Going up a hill slowly (approx 15 mph) the vehicle downshifts harshly. Driving slowly preparing to stop at a traffic light the vehicle downshifts harshly. Driving slowly preparing to stop then accelerating causes the vehicle to shudder. No problems driving at highway speeds.

Sounds like a shift solenoid may be bad.

Any check engine light?
