When my tank is full the gas gauge reads correctly. When I get down to about a half tank is behaves crazy. Sometimes it will be right. Then it will suddenly jump and read full and work its way back to the correct reading gradually. Or it will suddenly read empty, then jump to full and work its way back down to the correct reading. It gets worse as the tank gets less full. Also it seems to happen more ofter when I step on or off the gas. But it still happens at other times.

Hi:
Without being there, I would say the float (part of the fuel pump) is shorting and not sending the proper reading to the gauge. The worst part is that it's in the tank and part of an expensive fuel pump. To repair this problem, I would recommend having the float checked for out put to see if that is where the problem is starting.

Let me know what you find.
