Animal513,
I had a sumilar problem with my 2000 Chevy Impala LS, 3.8 ltr V-6.
No trouble codes on the engine computer. Seemingly random incidences. Always able to restart within 5-15 minutes. Seemed as though someone shut off the ignition switch and then turned it to "on" after the engine quit.
After living with the problem for about 4 months, I finally found a mechanic with tons of patience and determination. He found that it was the Crankshaft Position Sensor that was shutting off the ignition.
It has been over three years and the only time the engine shuts off is when "I" shut off the ignition switch with the key.
