Engine Performance problem
1995 Buick Park Avenue 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 100000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
Hi how are you? Ive taken my buick to various mechanics and none of them are able to figure out why the car wont stay on. Its been in a garage for a year and the last known problem was with the fuel injection and the muffle was making noise and shaking. Recently the mechanic was able to get the car started but it keeps turning off. what do you suggest?

You need to be a little more informative about when this is happening, how long while running until it cuts off, how soon after can it be restarted etc.

Working off what you have given so far, I lean toward the crankshaft position sensor. It is like a miniature coil that senses a reluctor type ring mounted under the harmonic balancer. If the sensor starts to fail, it can heat up and start cutting out. If the engine will not start until it cools down, this is likely the problem. You can test this very easily 75% of the time without spending a dime.
Run the engine until it fails. Then simply take a garden hose and run cold water around the area of the harmonic balancer on the front of the crankshaft ( end where the belts are on). Do this for 30 seconds to 1 minute and try to restart the engine. If it starts then the CPS is the problem.

If this helps you then please help finance our cause. Thanks
