Car failed to start a couple times. Both times happened when car was low on fuel and sitting at a non-level angle. Managed to get it restarted both times and started again fine after that. Other than that, car runs great. Is it the fuel pump starting to go?

Check the fuel pressure with a gauge to rule out the fuel filter, fuel strainer and fuel pump

Thanks for the advice. Took it to the shop, replaced the fuel filter, seems to run good now, although it's coming up on 1/2 tank again, we'll see if it fails to start once it goes below that level.

Related question: the service writer told me that "electric fuel pumps either work or they don't". This seems kind of simplistic, implying that as long as the fuel pump is working at all it's working perfectly. Is he right?

Okay, so the fuel filter was replaced and the fuel lines were also replaced cos they were rusted in spots. Last night I was driving for about 25 minutes, parked and ran into Wawa, came out a couple minutes later, it wouldn't start. Sat for a few more minutes, car started right up. I'm guessing the fuel pump is starting to go?

Hook a fuel pressure tester and monitor the pressure this will tell you something what's going on.
