It is coincidental. Not so much the braking, but the change in the engine rpm. Your PCM "sees" the voltage from camshaft position sensor for fuel delivery and ignition timing. If the CMP sensor is not working properly, PCM doesn't know when to send fuel to the injectors, thus stalling the engine. Have the CMP sensor checked out, you may also want to check the crankshaft position sensor and throttle position sensor checked out as well.
