Electrical problem
1991 Buick Park Avenue 6 cyl Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 120000 miles

MY 1991 Buick Park Avenue is not starting. It turns over but seldom fires. The problem started after the bitter cold hit, so I thought it was the battery. It was tested and showed good, so the guy at the OReilly's thought it was the alternator, we took it off and tested it and it was fine. We talked to a mechanic and he said to check the ignition module, so we took it off and had it tested and it was fine, but when we put it back on the car, the car started right up and ran great all day. The mechanic thought it was just a bad connection and suggested just driving it because the problem was fixed. This morning same problem all over again. The car has always been garaged until the last month. Could this affect it in some way, or could there be a short in the ignition module. Or does this sound like the coil or something else? I would really appreciate your help on this matter.

Thanks,
Cheryl Russell

It sounds like the pins in the connector that plugs into the module, unplug it, check to see if any of the pins are lower than the rest, it may have pushed out of the socket a wee bit.

Ive seen this a hundred times, the coil pack resistance varies from each coil tower sets. You have to replace the coil pack. This is true if it has a coil pack which is the coil that has all 6 terminals in one assembly. Check back with us.
