Electrical problem
1991 Buick Park Avenue 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My surpentine belt broke and left me with little control of my vehicle and upon replacing it we noticed that the Idler Pulley was wobbling. When we tried to run the engine the pulley rides sideways on the other pulley and if we let it continue it would bounce off. We need to know how to replace the Idler Pulley, is this a complex project? My husband is very mechanical but is not sure what the procedure is with this part as he has never changed one before, can you help us or redirect to get the info we need please. Thank you for you help in advance. Carol

Wow thank you for your quick response. I didn't appear to be so easy as there looks to be a cap in the middle and 4 low rise bolts on the outside, we weren't sure if we needed to remove this cap to get at the center bolt. Is this correct? We didn't want to start prying on this cap until we were sure. Thank again, we appreciate your help

Yes some do have a cap on them but the cap is not all that important the only other time you would need to remove the whole idler bracket is when the spring is bad but most of the time the pulley is what goes out yes remove the bolt most of the time the bolt turns counter clockwise but sometimes turns clockwise also inorder to get the bracket off you have to remove the pulley to get to all the bolts but what you have to do is just the pulley so have a good day and thank you for using 2carpros
