Electrical problem
1988 Buick Park Avenue 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive 211989 miles

I bought a 1988 Buick Park Avenue, 2 years ago and had no problems with it until now. When I start it up the motor runs fine until the motor reaches opperating temp, then it dies and will not start up until the motor cool down.

I ran a diagnostic check and it said to replace the can shaft censor, I did that and the motor runs smother but still died after reaching opperating temp.

After the motor dies, I checked for spark at the plugs and there was not none. I changed the coil pack and the module (thing under the coil pack) thinking that was the problem but its still the same.

I check the wires leading to the module and they seemed to be fine.

I changed the plugs and wires 2 months ago.

Could the crankshaft sensor make the module and coil not funtion correct?

Could the problem be in the computer?

Any help with my problem would be most greatful.

Thank you

The crank sensor sees a reluctor ring connected to the crankshaft (inside of the engine). Sometimes these rings become loose over time and the heating and cooling of the engine will affect the way the crank sensor sees the reluctor ring--thus cause your condition. Remove the crank sensor, with a skinny screwdriver, very very very carefully "lightly" pry on the reluctor ring to see if it is loose. Or it could be a coolant temperature sensor.
