1989 Other Buick Models Exterior gas gauge

my brothers car's gas gauge does not work right he will run out of gas and it could still read a quarter tank of gas. i was wondering how hard it is to wire up a external gas gauge and were i could get instructions. thank you.

Hi there,

remove the gauge wire from the sender unit and touch to earth, the gauge should go to full deflection, if so the gauge is ok and the problem will be the sender unit in the tank, this is normally the cause of this problem.
