1989 Other Buick Models drive then stop

why will start and stop, if you stop at light it dies and when you place the car in gear it dies what could that be, fuel pump or tune-up.

Could be either or non of the above, but if it's been a while since your last tune up, that's always where to start! Filters too.

Sounds like a fuel pump to me.Have some one check your fuel pressure and fuel regulator.When you change the fuel pump,make sure you change the fuel filter. hope this helps... jerry
