Electrical problem
2005 Buick Lesabre 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I had passenger side low beam headlight out. My
dealer service dept says I need a new headlamp assembly ($400+dollars) because a new bulb didn't work. They said assembly contains wiring and it was
"shorting out".

I declined and repaired it myself by just replacing the bulb.

Now I don't know if they were honest (and I may have an intermittent problem) or if they are wrong about there being a "wiring harness inside the assembly". I need to know if I can ever go back there with confidence.

Usually only HID headlights have internal wiring in the light assemblies. GM vehicles have been known to have issues with the bulb sockets getting hot and not making good contact, which you may have enhanced by simply replacing the bulb. Call another dealer and see if the headlight bulb pigtail is available seperatly or if you have to purchase the entire headlight to get it, this should help clear up their point of view on it or you
