currently getting only 14.5 mpg in town and i am a very light on the pedal driver sometimes i notice some slight hesitations and just recently car went on freeway 1st time since purchase 2 mo ago and when i climbed some inclines it sutterd noticeably i am wondering is just tune up ormaybe catalic problems

It wouldn't hurt to see of there are any codes in the pcm, that may highlight what is going on. IT would be good to check the wave pattern of the o2 sensors and see if one is weak.

I assume the fuel filter has been replaced. The plugs shold be good til 100,000, the wires may be bad as they are older, check the coil towers for any corrosion.There may be some carbon build up on the throttle plate and intake valves that can be chemically cleaned.

Get a look at the oil and coolant for conditions and levels. Not that this is part of your problem, but intake problems are common with these.
