Car started but now will not turn over?

Engine problem
1998 Buick Lesabre V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 120000 miles
We replaced a blown engine and also replaced starter. Car started but now will not turn over. Makes a RRR sound when trying to start.

You may need to put in some shims, or remove them from the starter...

Yes, that is ture but to me it sounds like the starter motor is defective and needs to be replaced, here are the instructions on how to do the job correctly. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
