Engine Cooling problem
1998 Buick Lesabre V8 Automatic 160000 miles

Was running a little above normal temp yesterday. Topped up the coolant. This morning it ran a little rough for 30 seconds then was fine. The heater would not come on, even with the fan going. Then the engine cut out after about 20 minutes of driving. When towed back to the house the engine started. Is it the thermostat or something worse?

I doubt the thermostat and the engine dieing on you are related. As far as the heat, with the engine running, hot, and the heater on high, feel both heater core hoses to see if they are hot. Let me know what you find.

Next, has the check engine light come on?
