i have a 1994 buick and over the last 6 months the speedo quit working, and when it is not working the odometer is not working, sometimes it idles at normal idle speed and most time it idles around 2500rpms, sometimes it will not start at all, everything lights up till i turn the key and then get nothing, i was told the computer under the dash is bad, is this true?

computers do go bad but i think you have another problem. there are fusible links that run off the starter and one of those may be bad. it's easy to tell they will be burnt and such. But clean your grounds on your battery and by your computer if you can see it. Get some choke cleaner and clean the throttle plate on both sides and the oblong hole for iac. that may make it run better as it gets gunked up with oil..

also check your start relay , it should be in underhood electrical center.
