Hi:
There could be many things causing this. Chances are it's the idle air control valve (IAC) or the throttle position sensor (TPS). What I recommend it to take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. If codes exist, it will point us in the right direction to fix the problem. Also, most stores will scan it for free so there will be no out of pocket spending.
I feel it's one of the things I listed, but without scanning, I would be guessing.
