1977 Buick Lesabre Need help finding EVAP leak

This is a Buick LeSabre, 403 (6.6) w/ 4 bbl. I'm told there is an EVAP system leak between the gas filler tube (behind license plate) and the canister. Lines at the canister were crimped to determine leak is not post canister.

What am I looking for? Is there a hose connection between the filler tube and gas tank that could cause this? Help.

how would someone have determined there was a leak? this is a odd question only because of the year of the vehicle. but anyway to find the leak i would use a evap system smoke machine and fill system with smoke and the leak would be evident through this way. are you l,eaking fuel?

It failed CA smog because of this leak and the test only advisor crimped hoses at the canister to determine the leak is between gas filler and canister. Where can I rent a smoke machine like what is posted?

im not sure where you can rent one, possibly a parts store or you might have to have it done at a service station because the machine costs about 1000 dollars on the low end. its possible the line is rotted from the tank to the canister and the easiest way to repair would be to just run a new rubber line the entire length but its also possible the leak is somewhere else like the fuel tank or the fuel tank sending unit on top of the tank. it would probably be most cost efficient to have it smoke tested to avoid misdiagnosis. sorry there is no easy solution
