1971 Buick Lesabre V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

when I turn the key to start the car it starts up but when I let the key go it turns off.. WHY? I changed the spark plugs, fuel pump, starter, ignition switch. it is getting gas in the carb.

This almost sounds like a resistor problem. I don't have a wiring diagram for this vehicle. I'm not sure if there is a resistor for the coil circuit on this vehicle.

Leave the key in the on position, see if there is B+ at the coil.
