I need to know how to compress the piston of the caliper. I think the emergency brake has to be released some how. thanks

The rear brake caliper may need to be screwed back into place. If the piston is smooth, that isn't the case. If it has two groves for a tool to fit into to tighten it, then it needs screwed back.
