1988 Buick Electra car won't start

Changed the battery after Autozone told me old one was bad. Still can't start the car and get a metalic grinding noise when turning key, same sort of noise when you keep the key turned too long when starting car. Is it the starter?

Hi:
The solenoid is bad. Replace the starter.
