Problem with Air Conditioner blower

I recently inherited a 1999 Buick Century with 57007 miles on it. It was my wife's grandmother's car who took relegious care of it, her late husband was a car mechanic. The car's air conditioner would not turn on when we picked it up. I pulled the fuse, it looked good, but the contacts looked discolored so using a fingernail file I cleaned them. The blower worked a couple of times, but then just quit again. The fuse is still good. It doesn't matter if it's the air that is on or the hat, no blower. Any ideas, I am on a budget and would like to avoid the dealer if possible.

Thank you

Your question is a little confusing, . Is your problem that the blower doesn't work or that the AC compressor isn't coming on? If the air isn't 'blowing' out of the vents, try the switches in other positions to see if you get anything. Fan switch on medium or low, climate control on Heat, Bi-Level, Defrost. Etc. If still no blower, unplug the blower motor wire and check it with a test light. If the test light lights on all of the fan switch positions, then the blower motor is bad. If it lights and the blower runs on medium and low, but not on high, then the high blower relay is the culprit. If the light doesn't light at all, then you're going to have to use your test light, starting at the fuse panel, to find where the current is stopping and why.

Air does not come out no matter what setting, high, low, medium, etc. And no matter the tempature, max air, air, vent, heat, or defrost.
I have not checked with a test light yet, thanks. When I first got the car, Saturday night, I checked the fuse looked good, but dirty. Cleaned it and everything was beutiful from about Saturday night around 8. Sunday morning went to church no problem, then about 2 I drove to WalMart - air worked, it felt good, when I came out it worked until I made a right out of the parking lot them it died. Fuse still was clean and good, but swiched it with a spare anyway, still nothing.
Hope that clears up some confusion.
