There may be a lock-out switch at the master switch in the driver door. With that switch, you can lockout the people in the back seat, they can't roll the windows up and down, only the driver. I guess it's a safety feature so kids can't fool with the windows. Try flipping the switch the other way, then see if you can control the windows from the backseat.
The partsbook I looked at, showed the same part number for the left front and left rear window motors.
In the past, I have thought about trying to save a buck, by swapping the front and rear window motors on different models, I decided against it. If you get at the driver window motor, you might check for voltage at the motor connector, with the controls in the up/down position, just to be sure. After I get a window motor out, I hook it up to the battery, just to make sure it doesn't work. If you try testing, it wouldn't hurt to use an inline fuse on the jumper.
