Is it true you should not let your fuel go below 1/4 tank because it takes fuel to keep the fuel pump cool?

It is true that fuel is used to cool the pump but as far as not letting it get below a quarter of a tank I will share with you the wisdom of my Father who was Captain in charge of maintenance on the Chula Vista fire department for 33 years, he said "It doesn't cost any more to keep the top half of the fuel tank full as the bottom half" Dont run it dry and you should be OK.
