my car is making this really loud high pitch noise, shakes and won't speed up over 40 without pushing the petel to the floor and you still have to wait awhile. I took it to the shop and the said my cataylitic converter needs replaced. I know nothing about cars but my father says I need my transmission rebuilt. what should i do?

Do an exhaust backpressure test to rule out the C/Converter, also check the throttle position, MAF/MAP sensors. Last fuel pressure check-
