My car is making a whining noise usually after a long drive. This is immediately followed by jerking when shifting up to the next gear, this tapers off after reaching about 60 mph. It is easily solved by stopping the car and turning the engine off for about 3 minutes. What could be causing this irritating problem?

When was the trans last serviced? Also, has the check engine light come on?

Let me know.
