I opened the radiator cap, and found a thick redish sludge. Not sure what it could be and why its there.

could be caused by crack(s) in radiator or faulty head gasket. is engine overheating? may want to have radiator shop flush and inspect radiator..

No, its not over heating, and there is still water in the radiator, it was real thick, almost a muddy texture, and it was the same way in the coolant reservoir.
