got out of car to get mail and heard loud clacking noise from engine....does not appear to make noise when first starting the car in morning, so may have to run for a while.....friend feels that my clutch is going and said something about a bering....sound stops when air conditioner is turned off - has anyone experienced this problem and if so can they offer some possible causes...any idea the repair cost?
Thanks

If the sound stops with the A/C off, I would think that there might be something amiss with the A/C compressor. Lift the hood and listen for the source of the noise.
