My check engine soon light stays on and I did have the problem checked. The code indicates my EVAP control unit needs assistance. My car takes too long to start, but it does start. I do smell fuel continuously. My gas mileage is poor. There are no leaks and I cannot find any disconnected hoses. A mechanic tells me the evap/fuel lines need to be filled with some type of leak detecting smoke/dye that can detect any possible leaks. I have a friend that says it could also be the EGR valve. The mechanic wants $80.00 to diagnose with the smoke. Advance auto wants $180.00 for a new EGR valve. I also notice a coolant leak at the thermostat. Small but a leak no less. I am going to be unable to repair the thermostat because I cannot reach the bolts with my tools. What is the best route to follow?
